A Practical Law Firm Was Born
James Burchett and Jason Kemp have been friends since high school. Their paths diverged after high school. James moved-on to Georgia Southern University to study and play football. Jason enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he became an avionics technician on the KC-135. James met his wife at GSU, and they married after graduating. James put his Construction Management degree to use and worked several years in the construction industry. James worked hard at his craft while studying the industry. He started a business to provide full service (factory to site) building materials brokerage— while also conducting building inspections. During this time the Burchett’s welcomed their first son. Even though James was enjoying life, he felt the pull towards advocacy. Whether it was through political office or legal practice, he wanted to serve and advocate for others. James called his old high school friend not knowing that Jason was in his third year of law school.

After completing his enlistment in the Air Force, Jason decided to go to college. He graduated from Georgia Southern University with a focus in Pre-Law. Although at different times, Jason and James both graduated from Florida Coastal School of Law. Still having a strong desire to be in the aviation industry, Jason went on to the University of Mississippi School of Law and graduated with a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Aviation and Space Law. Afterward, Jason started his own practice. Jason met his wife at church, and she has helped him grow his practice (and his family) over the years.
After a few years and many phone calls giving each other advice, Jason and James decided to do what they imagined during that phone call when Jason was in his third year of law school—start a partnership that is governed by their values. Burchett & Kemp was born out of the principle that clients deserve sound, practical advice guided by experience and knowledge of the law. Their unique paths to practicing law qualifies them to think through various strategies to assess the likely outcomes. James and Jason have also discovered through their practices that clients often need an attorney to collaborate with them. The truth of the matter is clients are usually experts in the matter they bring to Burchett & Kemp, and they only need a legal team member to pursue their goals.
